If you’ve decided to upgrade from halogen headlights to HIDs, you can complete the installation process in just 10 steps. Though not every Chevrolet truck model will follow exactly the same steps, the guide below should provide you with enough detail to properly complete the HID installation process. 1 – To begin the process, you’ll first need to remove the low beam lights from the headlight assembly. Start by popping the hood of the truck. Many Chevy trucks contain a simple locking pin that keeps each headlight in place. Simply release the locking pin, and then carefully pull the headlight out. 2 – Now that the headlight has been removed from its holding space, it’s time to remove the headlight harness. You can do this by lightly tugging it out from the back. 3 – Put the stock headlight aside now that it’s been removed. You can take the HID bulb from the kit and remove it from its housing now, but put it to the side, and avoid making skin contact with it. Also take the HID ballast out, as this will be the next piece you use. 4 – To install the HID ballast, take double-sided tape and cover the flat back side with it. You can also try to secure it in using bolts or other makeshift setups, but strong, untouched double-sided tape will work best, and will be the quickest to use. No part of the flat space should be uncovered. 5 – Put the ballast aside for a moment, and grab some of your cleaning tools. You don’t want any residue or other material interfering with the tape once you mount the ballast. To prevent such interference, scrub the area between the headlight mount and the radiator. 6 – Mount the HID ballast in between the headlight mount and the radiator. On Chevy trucks, this is the best spot to hold it. 7 – It’s time to hook everything up now. Grab the HID bulb carefully (again avoiding skin contact) and connect all the relays/wires/harnesses/etc. 8 – Put the head lamp in place. On certain truck models, you may need to relocate the passenger side air box temporarily while you complete the installation. Make sure the HID bulb is securely in its socket before continuing. If you haven’t plugged in the ballast yet, do so now. 9 – Repeat all the aforementioned steps on the other side of the headlight assembly.
X – To lock the new headlights in place, first ensure they’re
secure in their sockets. Depending on what HID kit you selected, you’ll
now either be able to secure the new headlights with the locking pins provided
by the manufacturer, or can modify the framework so it properly fits the new
parts. Then you can simply ground the relays in the empty metal air box
holder before reinstalling the air box. After this, test the lights, and
you should be all set to use them on the road and elsewhere.
